PROJECT 1A / PHYSICAL COLLAGE

Prepare materials
Fig.2.1.1 Magazines, booklets (Week 1, 26/9/2024)

Since I don't have any newspaper or magazines in my home, I went to myNEWS to buy some advertisement magazines.

Fig.2.1.2 Collage elements, (Week 2, 1/10/2024)

I decided to go for an abstract theme on my collage, and these are the graphics and elements I cut out for my collage. There are some images printed, which are the black and white hand gesture.

Pre-Composition #1:

Fig.2.1.3 Pre-Composition #1 / (Week 2, 2/10/2024)

CONCEPT

The first composition I came up with an illogical design; I just followed my feeling and came out with this composition. The main center is the woman, and her body disintegrates into a car suspended by ropes. I put it in the middle to attract focus. Also, the hand in the picture has a magnified effect. It looks like the woman is grabbing one's hand and rushing to somewhere, and she was like a robot that can move very fast. The idea was so abstract that I can't explain why the design looks like it, but overall, I think this design really caught my eye.

Pre-Composition #2:

Fig.2.1.4 Pre-Composition #2 / (Week 2, 2/10/2024)

CONCEPT

For the second composition, I made it look like the woman was confused about what was happening. Her eyes really match the expression when she is shocked. There are two cats on top of the collage, which are performing like circuses, or jumping through the hoops. There is something that I added: the word "car" actually should be "cat." I think it is funny to call them car instead of cat; it's actually a trend in Facebook memes. Apart from that, I like the design in which the fingers cross with ropes; it gives me a sense of realistic.

Pre-Composition #3:

Fig.2.1.5 Pre-Composition #3 / (Week 2, 2/10/2024)

CONCEPT

The last composition is slightly different from the others; I designed it to be relatively scattered, but the main centers are still the woman and the hand. The entire composition looks more mysterious and galaxy. But I'm not too into this design, as I think it's a bit messy for me.

FINAL PHYSICAL COLLAGE

Mr. Fauzi helped us choose the best version of our physical collage, and we stick our collage in the class. After that, we take a group photo before leaving.

Feedback: The composition is good, and the words do express the meaning.

REFLECTION

Experience:
In this physical collage project, I worked with different materials like paper, magazines, and printed elements. It was interesting to figure out what the composition looks like, and I like cutting, layering, and arranging the elements to create the overall collage.

Observation:
Through this project, I observed that physical elements present a range of texture that a digital environment can't quite replicate. Besides, the composition of the collage is very important, which will affect the final cohesiveness.

Findings:
This project taught me to be patient and think ahead, and encourage my creativity.
