REFLECTION
Experiences:
Ending this semester, I've been creating an exciting array of projects that were challenging and rewarding. From simple artwork tasks, designing my own Pokémon character to creating a composition for a Pokémon card, creating a self-portrait poster, and a webcomic, each assignment enhanced my creativity and refined my technical skills. Initially, I didn't know how to use Adobe Illustrator at all, but through my lectures, trial, and error, I became familiar with their potential and now use them confidently to enhance my designs. For the Pokémon character design, it was interesting and joyful to create a Pokémon, even though I'm not a Pokémon fan, but I used to watch during my childhood. I love how I create my own creature and create a dynamic scene to it. For the poster task, I felt a bit embarrassed to put my self-portrait image as I needed to take a photo, but I was surprised that the final outcome was creative and satisfying. Lastly, the webcomic was perhaps the most ambitious, as it required me to design both a cover and a one-paged story. I needed to imagine the visual scene of the story provided and chose whether which part of the story could be visualized and drawn out in the panel. It was a lot of work, and I put a lot of effort into it. I'm satisfied with my final outcome, as it did actually match the initial visual in my mind. Overall, I've come a long way on this journey and learned a lot of things; I very much appreciated it.
Observation:
Through these projects, I learned to use the Blur Tool to create soft edges and enhance depth, particularly in background elements and light effects. Besides, drawing layouts by referring to environment compositions and observed perspective techniques helps me create more immersive scenes, especially in the Pokémon card and webcomic. Apart from that, experimenting with 3D effects added dimension to typography elements; it was very aesthetic. I also learned to create a brush for details like the monkey's paw fur, allowing for personalized touches. Last but not least, I used Photoshop as well, it was invaluable for adding textures, creating unique surface effects, making it more realistic, and even surrealistic.
Findings:
Reflecting on my findings, I've realized how interconnected these projects were in building my skill set. Each project not only improved my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of how art and technology can work together to tell compelling stories. Looking ahead, I hope to build upon the skills and experiences I've gained this semester. I'm willing to learn more ambitious projects that push the boundaries of my creativity and technical expertise.
